July's coming, and I'm trying to think of it as a chance to reset. I've fallen off the wagon for a lot of things, so what's important is that I do my best to clamber back on.

- Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga
I'm a big fan of the Persona franchise, and Metaphor: ReFantazio was one of my favourite games last year, but the older games have always eluded me. I've owned DDS for decades, and I think the first time I played it I was potentially too young to understand it. Either way, I'm enjoying it now. Metaphor's combat system really helped this game stick. Plus, Shoji Meguro is on absolutely top form.
- Final Fantasy XVI
I played FFXVI when it first came out, and I remember having a good time with it. You can tell it shares a lot of its DNA with an MMO, and there are times when that really hurts it, but the combat system is snappy and deep.
That said, my qualms about the narrative haven't changed. It's still... fine, with some... less fine bits. All propped up by some excellent performances and music.
