One of the early lessons I took from my parents when I was entering the world of work (bleugh) was "Never make a life-altering decision when you're angry or upset."
That advice is useful, but it conditioned me to ignore the red flags my nervous system raised. Turns out, if the anger or upset doesn't go away, that life-altering decision never gets made.
It also left me open to make non-life-altering decisions when I'm angry or upset, which has bitten me more than once. Including today!
There's another meme going round Bluesky (yes, just one) that requires folks to ingest six months of their profile data into a service that then breaks their behaviour over that period into phases, and assigns them a creature.
Immediately, my guard went up. These kinds of apps are privacy nightmares, and they're a dime a dozen. So I quote-posted the one I saw, laced it with an acidic warning about privacy, hit send, and seethed for about 30 seconds.
No research. No fact-checking. Nothing of the sort. When I pulled myself out of the haze I'd sunken into, I followed the quote thread down and learned it was, as far as I can tell, a harmless gimmick made by someone for fun. Not my speed, something I wouldn't engage with, but nothing that deserved how hard I came down on it.
Post deleted. Breathe in. Out.
So yeah. Non-life-altering decision made in anger, that made the day of everyone involved just a little bit more miserable. Not fun.
Next time I'll try to do better.

- The web is bearable with RSS: Very true! I haven't completely recovered my experience on socmed (if you know how to get image feeds into RSS that aren't from aggregators, please hit me up), but since swapping to RSS I've felt a decided reduction in unwanted noise and enshittification.

- D&D Project 1 - Title TBC, intro and body finished. I have contacted a cover artist! Hosting and advertising are still pending.
- Book! - As above, I'm writing a book! Title is also TBC, I have one but I'm not super happy with it yet. Early planning complete, next step is to start writing it.
- Monster Hunter: Chronicles - Most of the story is outlined. I'll start working on volume II next month.
